A Sydney drug bust has resulted in arrests across the country and more than $80 million worth of methamphetamine seized, police have said.

Two men aged 36 and 41 were arrested in the inner-west suburb of Petersham on Wednesday.

In subsequent searches, police said they found 16kg of meth in a suitcase and on the men.

The cost of meth in Australia rose steadily between 2012 and 2017.

The 36-year-old man was charged with  import commercial quantity of border-controlled drug and supply prohibited drug more than large commercial quantity.

The 41-year-old man was charged with import commercial quantity of border-controlled drug and supply prohibited drug more than large commercial quantity, two counts use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention and assault police officer in execution of duty.

Both were formally refused bail and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court in mid-November.

After the men were taken to Burwood Police Station, officers raided homes across Sydney’s south and inner-west, at properties at Tempe, Kingsgrove, Waterloo, St Peters and Petersham.

At Tempe, police allege they found a clandestine drug lab, $1.5 million in cash, guns, meth and drug-making equipment.

Police also seized 100 litres of the chemical GBL and encrypted communication devices.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the Tempe property and charged with being the owner or occupier of a drug premises, and two counts of drug supply.

He was formally refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court next Thursday.

At the Petersham property, police said they found and seized nine pallets of industrial plastic rolls which were concealing 50kg of meth.

The arrests come after a months-long investigation from NSW Police, the AFP and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.

Soon afterwards, search warrants were executed at properties in Brisbane and Perth.

Police searching two serviced apartments in Innaloo and an industrial unit in Malaga, both in Perth, allegedly found 7kg of ice, more than $250,000 in cash and a small amount of cocaine.

Two men – aged 32 and 34 – were arrested at the Malaga address and have since been charged with one count each of trafficking a commercial quantity of methamphetamine and dealing in the proceeds of crime.

They were refused bail and will appear at Perth Magistrates Court this morning.
